I used to have a wind-up watch. I’ve no fond memories of its ability to keep correct time. The new beats the old where I’m concerned.

I went back to the analog style after the digital craze wore off. I could never remember how to set one of those goofy things, and I dreaded the time changes twice a year.Besides, I found it facetious when someone would ask the time, and you’d find yourself replying “It’s 5:47”. “Quarter to six” used to be close enough.

Could have been worse, having to turn the hourglass, I remember winding the watch and the alarm clock every day at bedtime.

I was the only Masters candidate in a seminar of PhD candidates. The subject of wind-up watches came up in the discussion and I mentioned I was wearing one. Everyone got up and rushed around the table to see this wonder up close. And this was twenty years ago.

I have an ex-services clockwork watch which was given to me by a friend. It cost me £70 to have it repaired…….It keeps whatever time it feels like…..some friend.

If a pitcher winds up; is he a machcanical or merely too tightly wound?

I just like the plugger kids! Always laughing or giggling, I wish real kids were like that.
