If memory serves, one of the pick-up lines at a high school student body president candidates said in assembly “always take your wallet out of your pants before putting them in the washer.” This was back in my high school days.
I got lucky and found a $20 bill once, but usually it was less than 50 cents. The rule in our house was whoever does the laundry gets the money. My teen-aged son volunteered to do laundry quite a bit.
