I don’t buy wrapping paper, I save the Sunday Funnies and use THOSE. After a while you get so far ahead that the recipient has COMPLETELY forgotten they various punch lines and gags, and my Dad says that he usually likes reading the wrapping paper better than the Gift.

(At 80+ he’s VERY hard to shop for; if he wants/needs it, he’s already GOT it. So I’m glad he likes SOMETHING!)

I almost said, “That’s our house”, but it’s not. In our family, the onlookers were more likely to be saying something like, “Careful. Don’t rip the paper.”

Sadly, not all Sunday funnies are big enough anymore. Ours are half-size pages and I use a magnifier to read some of them.

Then everyone gets to remember what the gift was last year, and the year before, and the year before. The paper shrinks, but the memories grow.

My dad used to pull out his pocket knife and slit the tape oh so carefully before he would unwrap and fold the paper. It used to drive my mother crazy.

I would use the “funnies” to wrap a gift, but I’d need to print it out first and only very small packages can be wrapped with 8-1/2 × 11 paper…
