When I was in Lewis County, Washington 1992-2012, there was Hillstrom’s Painting and Papering.

TIL Enzo Ferrari and Bruce McLaren were Pluggers.

On their store fronts, too.

Only thing on the side of my vehicle is road dirt ! … Until the next rain ;-)

Your a plugger if you have driven the same truck so long no one knows you in something different.

And you’re still driving it years after you’ve retired.

I couldn’t get a vanity plate with my name, so I change my name to CEX 187

That’s ‘nothin. I’ve got my name everywhere. Drivers license, credit card, bills, tax forms.

1-A gets you listed higher up in the phone book (remember those?) But in a smaller community they look for a name they know well, or are related to.

My father and his partner owned a bar in the port section of Elizabeth, NJ they kept the name of the previous owner on the bar when they bought the bar.

I don’t know if they’re still around, but there was a plumber in KC called Damm Plumbing. Their trucks had ‘Call the Damm Plumber’ on the side.

That was usually a boomers ambition, to be their own boss!
