Sniff and tell. In the last panel Poncho is yelling at his behind for ratting him out, so to speak.

This actually looks like a tribute to Alison Bechdel’s cover for “The Essential Dykes To Watch Out For” http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/RESOURCE/MEDIA/IMAGES/bookcovers/Original/BookCovers13/978/0/6/1/8/9780618968800.jpg

It’s actually based from a painting by Norman Rockwall called Gossip. There have been lots of parodies of it, including Bechdel’s, and Woot did a zombie version of it for a Halloween shirt.

    Hope the link works…

(I love Rockwell – got to see a huge show of his work a few years ago; the prints are great, but the originals are amazing.)

Obviously Rockwell inspired, but in this case Poncho might be upset that he is the only one with a tail not attached to his body.

Yeah, now I get it, but how the butt-sniffing works into it I do not get.

Circuit, dogs get their information (gossip) about each other by sniffing butts. In the Rockwell painting, which I linked above, the first woman is telling something juicy, and at the end, the man she was evidently gossiping about is yelling at her, since the gossip about him got back around and he knows she told. She has clearly betrayed him. Poncho’s butt has revealed something about him, so he’s yelling at it.

Now, does anyone still care on Monday…?
