I can remember having to wait until all the chores were done and my grandparents came before we could open presents. My grandparents just lived acrosss the yard but it would be 10 A.M or so before we could open anything. Looong wait.
This past year, my sister and I got to my parents about 9ish. We normally do oldest to youngest with stocking stuffers and then youngest to oldest with presents. Dad and mom got their stockings unwrapped it got to me and my sister and I both agreed, brunch first. The look on mom and dad’s face was priceless.
After all the attacks on Xmas’ commercialism, greed, and ultimate nullity…add in the historical questions about the actual dates and the non-Christian origins…is anybody surprised at its emptiness? "Can you keep it down? " Growing kids do need love and enough sleep.
But the ‘arms race’ between givers, stimulated and egged on by profiting entities and advertisers spoils a lot of winter naps.

I read somewhere that “traditions” are anything the boomers did twice. Just a thought.
