Points to House Winslow for a sad insight and points taken away from House Carmen for willful, if inspired, ignorance.

I would like to add, one should aspire to Carmen’s ideals but you can’t ignore Winslow’s truth. Today and for a long time past, the individual’s wishes has been regarded as the ultimate sacred good. Our country was founded on the ideals of allowing an individual the opportunity to fulfill their ambitions. Pursuit of happiness and all that. But, we live in a complex world now. Others needs can’t be ignored or run away from (new frontier and all that). We have to acknowledge we live within a whole and have a responsibility to that. Being concerned about others is not the dreaded socialism, but just being human. Love one another as we would be loved ourselves. That is an ideal worth striving for.

No matter who thought it up, it is still a disaster.

Unfortunately, these days “being human” seems to mean acting beastly.

Ahhhh yes, do you remember the Palin rally where the audience chanted “Let him die” to the hypothetical question of what to do if a potentially mortally injured person showed up at an emergency room without insurance?Apparently there have been a lot of changes to what defines a good American and a Christian since I was a child.
