As an adopted child, I always find this extremely offensive. Why is telling a child he’s adopted an “insult” requiring an apology? This is why there’s such a stigma about it. All older siblings tell their younger ones they were adopted. And parents always freak out whenever this occurs. Children internalize this and assume this means adoption is a bad thing. Jokes like this do not help.
