You Texas conservatives should ask yourself a question. In Roe vs Wade the SCOTUS set out the limits on what a state can do to restrict abortion. Your legislators are trying to pass a law which will violate those limits. This will result in a lawsuit which will eventually go to the SCOTUS, which will refuse to revisit something already settled in Roe vs Wade. The effect of this will YOUR legislators will have wasted millions of your dollars in legal fees to pretend they actually care about people.
A bit of an over-reaction here. If you read the decision, the SCOTUS did indicate that continuing to enforce voting rights based on 50 year old data had to stop. There was no mention of anything wrong with enforcing voting rights based on new data.
The willingness of the Con Trolls to ignore reality is mind boggling. Why are Social Security and Medicare entitlements? Because the recipients have already paid for the benefit – they are ENTITLED to it. Are both programs in need of fixing? Yes!! So stop telling the people who have paid for the benefit they don’t really deserve it. Human up and fix the programs. Social Security is easy – minor adjustments will solve that problem. Medicare is tougher – you have to eliminate the fraudulent billing by the service providers. And it’s obvious Republicans love crocked businesses.
The level of stupidity that comment reveals is appalling. Since you probably slept through your American Government class in high school, here is how it works.
The executive branch consists of a vast bureaucracy of both political appointees and permanent employees. The political appointees range from the highly visible positions such as Secretary of State and Attorney General to much less visible positions – Assistant To the Ambassador to Chile. The permanent employees are non-political, and do the actual work – other than press conferences.
In as case like this, the wishes of the political appointees are honored only if they are legal. In this case, they are authorized by the Patriot Act.
