@margaretannehill. One is alone if one wants to be. I was divorced and alone for 9 years. I kept my eyes open, met up with people who were in a similar situation. A circle of friends is always helpful. There are groups everywhere…senior centers, churches, etc. That’s what I would do…
This was drawn probably in the 20s…people spoke vastly different then. Some of the expressions they used would get a rise out of people today. Back in before WWII, the word “blow” had a number of meanings…one meaning was “to pay for” someone. A friend of mine’s mother announced to us one evening that “Janie’s blowing Russell tonight”. Needless to say there was a lot of nervous laughter and red faces…the mother said, “Did I say something wrong?” I know I didn’t do any of the explaining on that one. Somebody once said, "The Americans & the British are two nations divided by a common language. A friend of mine was in Ireland as a teenager. He was visiting relatives on a farm where he noticed they had a few bicycles . At the dinner table one evening he asked one of his female cousins if she wanted “to go for a ride” after dinner. Once again, nervous laughter at the table. His uncle pulled him aside and explained that that meant the same as “a roll in the hay”…he was quite embarrassed…
Going to worship the Lord in the most fantastic outfits. They wouldn’t dream of going to a party dressed like that. We go to weddings in our finest attire yet we wear shorts & tanktops to worship. Hard to believe…wonder what it’s going to be like when we meet the Lord…
It’s really easy to follow your conscience and abandon your country, rather than spend two years serving it. Wonder would have happened after Pearl Harbor if guys just ran to Canada…hmmmm…..
In NYC, if you park at a meter, you MUST activate the meter with a quarter whether the meter has time left on it or not. If you get out of your car, look at the meter, see that it has time on it and walk away, you risk a summons which, in NYC, is really expensive ($50 or more). Friend of mine found that out the hard way…and every time I see that there’s time left on the meter I make-believe that I put a quarter in, just in case a meter person is watching…
I agree 100%. Climate change is cyclical. America is at the top of green countries of the world.
