You choose yourself again—and your needs—even NOW? I agree with Night-Gaunt49. So…you are the person Holly modeled herself after!

Val let the kids wreck it, over and over. Good job, Val.

Somewhere, this is happening. Comics are serious and real, cloaked in humor and tell us about ourselves and our (in this case) Iowa culture and values. Now then. Holly is a challenge…the girls both are! But Val can’t make the all too common error of sublimating her happiness to fear about the child-rearing. Plus she has shock…she relived the possibility that Phil might also have died. But…he didn’t and she would go through that hell married to him or not. How about Mom flies home, colludes with Phil’s aunt, and does not leave until they are married?

The kids would cause all kinds of chaos in a marriage… Val has no history of putting Phil first…only of letting the kids wreck everything. How would this work out well?

Almost consistently, Holly is cruel. The cartoonist must know some really awful kid to write this strip. Holly just..chooses selfish. Chooses mean.

Stone Soup is set in Iowa, according to the strip itself, sometime or the other in the past.
