I’m having trouble getting past “I read that…”. The idea of Hobbes with pipe and slippers, perusing a “curious volume of forgotten lore” is tough for me to handle.
Hi,
The concept of a flying carpet is very appropriate for Calvin. It’s based on an actual experience from the Zen Meditation process. There is a point at which you become aware -sense, feel- life around you. Recognizing that life on Earth is only about 50 feet thick, from the roots to the tops of trees, basically, and all the rest of the planet is rock, you can see how this would feel. You are, in fact, standing on a very thin covering of a huge rock. When you sense this, it feels like a thin, magic carpet of life.
Have fun.
The question is: does the planet suck or is that gravity?
Thirty years ago they were dealing with the creation of alternate universes created by mass so maybe Watterson was going someplace with this.
