Okay, so I only really know 4 of these shows. The George Lopez show got 5 seasons, Ugly Betty was one of the most popular shows on TV at the time it was airing and got 4 seasons, and the Brothers Garcia got about as long a life as any other show on Nickelodeon around the time, complete with a movie. These three shows weren’t canceled so much as they were ended. Frankly, including them in this list undermines whatever point it was you were trying to make.

I think the values are great, too, but I don’t for a second believe that the grandma actually strives to live up to those ideals. She’s just far too happy with herself every time she’s immodest, unkind, unforgiving, self-aggrandizing, etc.I don’t find the strip irritating, just the grandma character. To be honest, as I said above, I always assumed that the point of the grandma WAS that she was a horrible human being high on her own sense of superiority, just like the point of Garfield is that he’s a fat, lasagna eating cat (who’s highly merchandisable)

Seriously? that’s like asking me to elaborate on why I think Garfield is a fat cat that eats lasagna. Every strip I’ve read with her in it has been pretty much themed around her being a self-righteous, full of herself, downright rude jerk.I mean, the first strips I ever saw of this comic were the ones where the entire family was trying to find out what to get her for her birthday, and her responses ranged from unhelpful to downright mean. To her family. Then there was the whole cat thing earlier, “The sane ones say ‘thank you’ for making me think my cat was dead.”the symbol for this comic on this site, last I checked, was her eyes in an “I’m so much more clever than everyone else” look, and you really don’t at least see how she fails to represent humility as anything more than an abstract concept that she is vaguely in favor of, as long as she doesn’t have to, y’know, do it?

You know, I totally understand what you were going for here, but the teacher is drawn in a subtly different style from everyone, not to mention always with that weird smile, to the point that I can not see and the flower as a metaphor for anything other than his penis.

Funny how she lists a bunch of values that she herself refuses to pay more than lip service to.

So the teacher is asking his students what they want to learn, and a third grader is wearing a tie when it’s not part of any uniform. What bizarre school is this?

How does she know that guy has a venereal disease?

She loves nature enough to trap neighborhood cats, but not enough to pick plastic bags up off the ground?

Codpiece guy is Scott from the future, here to deliver a dire message to his younger self (Don’t get a motor scooter, you’ll break your collar bone). He’s wearing a codpiece to protect everyone from his radioactive junk. http://basicinstructions.net/basic-instructions/2010/12/30/how-to-travel-back-in-time-to-deliver-a-dire-warning-to-your.html
