yes, but…I understand the joke with the shrunken woolies. But with 3 shrunken sheep, and counted as 1/2 each, then it’s 32,33, 33 1/2, 34, 34 1/2, 35 1/2, 36 1/2…At 1/3 each, you get the 33 1/3 joke AND the list falls back to integer sheep after 34.

  2. 5 days ago on Dark Side of the Horse

Maybe I’m showing my age and tech preferences, but… Shouldn’t it have been 33 1/3?

  3. 10 days ago on Non Sequitur

So you’re also saying that Schliemann only found some random abandoned city, and not Troy?

THAT is the bare minimum level of historical accuracy that the Bible presents. AND only from the biased viewpoint of a single tribe/nation/cult. The Persian invasion, the rebuilding of Jerusalem, etc. yes. DETAILS of personal events… no

  4. 11 days ago on Non Sequitur

There ARE correlations beyond the existence of Jerusalem. Abram was said to be from “Ur of the Chaldeans”. Apparently they found that city. Also non-biblical references to King David and others. Not matching the full DETAILS expounded in the Bible, but enough to be the basis of some Historical fiction/ Enhanced legends/ Grandpa’s tall tales/ etc.

  5. 12 days ago on Non Sequitur

I don’t remember the title or author, but there was a SF short-short story about a discussion between a teacher and a parent about the problems with the week long science project by young godling Jehovah.

  6. 12 days ago on Diamond Lil

Mrs. Lovett is branching out into turkey pies? Not just shepherd pie, or hunter pie, or… try the priest.

Thank you you you you you….

It was also used in artificial vanilla flavoring.

Not recently, and not widely. REAL vanilla extract has become much cheaper than castoreum based, and artificial vanillin made from wood pulp is even CHEAPER.

Final argument, with a bit of a grin…

Remember that the rules of English pronunciation are DESCRIPTIVE, not PRESCRIPTIVE.

Why do so many Earthlings think they know what the inhabitants of the Vega Star System think of as high cuisine?
