Hi, boboscar here. Sometimes to get the replies I need to make my useful main comment the Featured Comment, they won’t be divisible by 3. I’ve decided when that happens to mock GC admins’ neverending battle against fun in the Comments. 8 years ago, GC removed all images, videos, & links from the Comments and blocked us from putting in anymore. All we could do is type the full html to the links we wanted. Turns out GC resented us being able to do even that little, cuz last year they found a way to block us from doing that. We found a loophole to get around that, but I discovered 2 images I wanted to upload I no longer could in the loophole. Recently, GC blocked that loophole. We soon found new ones and I discovered I could now upload those images in the NEW new loophole!

HATERS GONNA HATE AND “CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICS” GONNA “CONSTRUCTIVELY CRITICIZE” (IOW HATERS GONNA HATE)!

Hello, Haf-and-Haf here. But the reason why that short comment is the Featured Comment (for now but not much longer) is that several people replied just to state their agreement with him on how much they hate show tunes. But many of these people have become quite infamous in this Comment section for hating something else. It often feels like they exist only to hate on that something else. One might even call them haters. Indeed, it feels like the real reason they replied to agree to Witchita1.0 was they saw it as another way to hate on that something else.

But millions upon millions of people love show tunes. Musicals wouldn’t exist otherwise. Which puts anything else these haters might hate in rather good, illustrious, even enviable company.

    MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

The Featured Comment we’re trying to dislodge was posted by Witchita1.0 where all he says is that he hates show tunes. Witchita1.0 is actually Mark Barnard, a friend of Mike Curtis who’s even guest-written a couple of stories here. He’s still supportive of Curtis’ work here on this strip. He just hates show tunes.

Hello, Haf-and-Haf here. According to Wikipedia it’s estimated that the Annie musical is performed 700-900 times every year in the United States. Which would mean the musical is by far the single most famous version of Annie today. The irony is that FDR is actually a character in the musical…and is a good guy and personal friend of Daddy Warbucks!

MUWAHAHAHAHA!!! Turn over in your grave, Gray!

    MUWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Annie’s creator Harold Gray was a notorious far right conservative. Perhaps the most infamous behind-the-scenes story about the strip is that in 1944, Gray got so depressed when FDR was re-elected to a fourth term that he killed off Daddy Warbucks, showing him dying in despair as he’s listening to the radio’s election results. But when FDR died in 1945, Gray was so revoltingly overjoyed that he brought Daddy Warbucks back from the dead.

PARAPHRASING FROM WIKIPEDIA! MRS! WARBUCK’S HUSBAND OLIVER RETURNS HOME FROM A BUSINESS TRIP AND TAKES AN IMMEDIATE PATERNAL INTEREST IN ANNIE, INSISTING SHE CALL HIM “DADDY”! EVENTUALLY THE WARBUCKS GET DIVORCED BUT DADDY WARBUCKS MAINTAINS CUSTODY OF ANNIE!

Hello, Haf-and-Haf here. Quoting from Wikipedia: The story opens in a dreary and Dickensian orphanage where Annie is routinely abused by the cold and sarcastic matron Miss Asthma, who eventually is replaced by the equally mean Miss Treat (whose name is a play on the word “mistreat”).

One day, the wealthy but mean-spirited Mrs. Warbucks takes Annie into her home “on trial”. She makes it clear that she does not like Annie and tries to send her back to “the Home”, but one of her society friends catches her in the act, and immediately, to her disgust, she changes her mind.

Quoting from Wikipedia: Little Orphan Annie displays literary kinship with the picaresque novel in its seemingly endless string of episodic and unrelated adventures in the life of a character who wanders like an innocent vagabond through a corrupt world. In Annie’s first year, the picaresque pattern that characterizes her story is set, with the major players – Annie, Sandy and “Daddy” Warbucks – introduced within the strip’s first several weeks.
