The term “trickle down” may have originated in the 1930s, but the concept goes back much further, at least to the Scottish economist Adam Smith’s writings in the 1770s. In the “Gilded Age” of the 1870s to the early 1900s the term “horse and sparrow” was coined. It described the process of where the horse was overfed oats; after the grain passed through the horse’s system some leftovers of the oats then became available for the benefit of the sparrows.

Hey, you learn something. I’ve always thought horses are strictly herbivores.

Actually, it’s fairly much how setting a budget works. You start with the amount of money you wish to spend and then work backwards, designating the purchases which can be accommodated by that amount.

I’m reasonably confident Danae has never formulated a budget.

Reminds me of an old joke:

A mathematician, a Statistician and an Accountant are in for a job interview.

The interviewer calls in the mathematician first, the interview goes well and for the last question the interviewer asks, “What does two plus two equal?”

The mathematician replies, “Assuming we are utilizing a base-10 numeral system, the answer would be ‘Four’.”

The interviewer says great and then calls in the statistician, and after another good interview he asks the same question, “What does two plus two equal?”

The statistician says, "With such a small sample size the answer is ‘four’ give or take point three percent, but on 9 times out of 10 the answer will be ‘four’.”

Satisfied, the interviewer then calls in the accountant and at the end of the interview poses the same question, “What does two plus two equal?”

The accountant leans forward towards the interviewer and asks in a quiet voice that no one can hear outside of the office, “What do you want it to be?”

There’s an old joke about a hot dog vendor who sold his hot dogs for $1,000 each. A guy who saw this commented, “At that price, you must not sell too many hot dogs.” The vendor replied, “No, but if I sell one I’m through for the day.”

    This must be that vendor.

Agoraphobia – extreme or irrational fear of entering open or crowded places, of leaving one’s own home, or of being in places from which escape is difficult.

Did Trump’s election really come as that much of a surprise? Remember, during the COVID pandemic, a significant percentage of the American population sided with the virus.

Except for rare occasions, our Paleolitic ancestors experienced unremitting hunger. And in the final panel, the “After” figure wouldn’t look that good.

“You think that unique, one-of-one, signed Paul Skenes rookie card the 11-year-old boy found is worth a million dollars?”

“Not to me, even if I could pay that.”
