Myself, I took them to be wooden frames. I’ve only ever seen that style of chair inside a home if it had a wooden frame. The only ones like that I’ve seen with metal frames were outdoor lawn chairs.

Why he’s on a perch hasn’t been answered yet, that is part of what Echo asked at the start of the week. (I know the answer, but I haven’t seen the strip that originally explained it.)

I feel either you’ve forgotten a lot about the strip, or perhaps you stopped reading it while it still had years to go? He was pretty much a main character and had his moustache from 2001 on (up until the end of its first run circa 2008, when it was rebooted). Or maybe you’ve only read the reboot and adult Anthony hasn’t featured much yet, due to the nature of the rebooted / revised strip?

From a FBOFW site: “About Anthony: Anthony was Liz’s first boyfriend. They dated throughout high school and remained friends even while Anthony was married and Elizabeth was far away teaching in Mtigwaki. Anthony’s wife Thérèse left Anthony and their young daughter Francoise, after which he began dating Liz again. Anthony works at Gordon’s Garage as the general manager, and he and Liz were married in August of 2008.”

Satch is describing Feed the Kitty, a 1952 Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon. Where the fierce bulldog adopts a kitten, and the kitten later kneads the dog’s back giving him a mean massage.
