That’s an awfully broad brush you’re painting with. Which “socialist” countries are you referring to? I highly doubt that the most liberal of liberals would eagerly embrace the “socialist” brand of a country such as China. Social democracies, such as the Scandanavian states, aren’t really known for the mass oppression of personal liberties.
Hate to break it to you folks who think it’s an issue of right or left - it isn’t. Corruption and the undue influence of money in politics and business isn’t driven by or limited by ideology. Greed, sadly, is a universal human trait.
