   I can’t prove it, but I suspect Fahrenheit was aiming to relate his scale to human perception: zero Fahrenheit is where you start to really feel the cold, and 100 is where the heat becomes really uncomfortable, being above your body temperature. My hypothesis is that the brine Farenheit used to set his scale was intended as a proxy for human blood.
