Everyone(for the most part, disregarding bitter and incorrect first posts) is making wonderful points about working moms, the economy, and the change from when those of us who are now middle aged were growing up. What no one is commenting on is the profound switch of having Alix be sullen and unreasonable and Holly being the calm voice of reason. When is the last time that happened in this strip. Could they both be growing up (Alix into adolescence and Holly out of it)? Nah!
Skip-Bo is a card game made by the same people who make Uno. Basically, it is counting to 12 over and over again. Yet it is actually fun, and many people can play at once.
I was thinking if I had ever been to a restaurant without a kids menu, and realized that I actually have. My daughter took me to The Melting Pot for my birthday. And she is the perfect example of the return on investment of kids. She was a teenager just like Holly, and now she is a woman and mother who makes me so proud!
I agree with what several people have said about various issues.
John was complimenting Elly, and she really should smile at what he said.
Elly may be gardening as a hobby, and John is likely reading as a hobby. Neither one may be doing chores, even if Elly’s hobby is more “productive.”
However, I do have one question: Where are the kids? Michael is old enough to not be constantly monitored, but Lizzie at age 2 should be somewhere her parents can see her. Perhaps she is in a wading pool that John can see (and therefore he is being productive, keeping an eye on Lizzie so Elly can do her gardening in peace.)
Isn’t it about time for the twins to be walking, talking toddlers?
