Agreed. Gotta read the comics. Although, skipping the political ones is good from time to time.

My sincere concern with this is with the VA: I know that not every VA hospital is the greatest, but some are doing very good work. The clinicians and nurses are safe from cuts so we can continue to take care of our veterans, but the admin staff, housekeeping, IT , budget and research are not. To cut all of the support staff (especially IT when they are trying to roll out a universal electronic health records system) will demonstrably reduce the quality of the patient experience. Appointments getting delayed, records getting lost, lower cleanliness. Research into PTSD, cancer and suicide prevention that has already been paid for gets cancelled. That money is spent, it doesnā€™t go back, you just lose the studies. This leads to lower quality of care across the board. Then the calls to cut the VA will come in. ā€œSee, the government run healthcare doesnā€™t work. Better to just privatize it.ā€ People will say. Then the veterans can get the same care as everyone else, and the benefit of paying outrageous prices like we all do. Perhaps that is me being negative, but it sure looks to be heading down this road. We, as a country have done a very poor job of taking care of our soldiers and veterans. I fear that this will be the death knell to any sort of support they deserve short of the empty, ā€œThank you for your service.ā€
