I have to laugh at all the handwringing and gnashing of teeth over a change of name. Although it wasn’t Trump’s intention, the name Gulf of America is more inclusive than Gulf of Mexico.

Either way, it’s just not that important of a topic to whine about.

Was there anything mgl179 stated that was untrue? If so, state your rebuttal. If you can’t or don’t have enough knowledge of the subject to discuss, then please don’t attack other people with banal comments. It makes you look weak-minded

Wow. The vitriol here is stifling. I can’t tell if most of you are just parroting the attacks on the current Administration because of your Trump hatred, or if you’re really this clueless. Either way, apparently you don’t understand what is going on.

Sadly, the U.S. financial situation is bad. Do you realize in the past 50 years there has only been 2 times when the U.S. had a balanced budget? LBJ in 1969, and Clinton in 1998-2000. Other than that, we’ve been running at a loss in the trillions and having to raise the debt ceiling every year to avoid crashing. That cannot and should not be sustained.

Let me give you a real-life example: In 1994 I joined a large and very well-known company that, it turns out, hadn’t been profitable for years. It continued that way year after year until it declared bankruptcy. Even after coming out of chapter 11, it still ran at a loss until in 2005 the board of directors hired a new CEO with orders to completely reorganize and make the company profitable.

Within the first few hours of his first day, 50% of the company was laid off. That is not an exaggeration, literary half the company was shown the door before noon. Regional offices had their leases renegotiated, or were moved to small & less expensive sites, or permanently closed. All compensation was frozen for two years and no bonuses paid. All advertising ceased for 18 months while new marketing was developed. A deep dive was taken into the existing budget and wasted expenditures were red-lined, other expenditures paused. Needless to say, us employees who were left complained and whined because we couldn’t or wouldn’t see the big picture.

Yet just 2 years later we had our first profitable quarter. Since then, the company has thrived.

Personally, I am not enthralled with everything Trump is doing, and I can see there will be initial pain. But I do understand it and hope the foundation that is set here sets us up in a MUCH better place than we’ve been in for decades.
