We tried that with Prohibition, and got organized crime & NASCAR as a result. (And a stronger FBI, BATF, etc.)
What befuddles me is how those in favor of “stricter gun control laws” have no clue why the 2nd amendment to the Constitution is the one immediately following the one guaranteeing freedom of speech, assembly, & religion and how they can possibly misinterpret the phrase “…shall not be infringed…”
The framers of the Constitution had just fought a long, hard bloody war against their OWN unjust government. They knew that is could happen again, and felt that an armed responsible citizenry was the answer if GOVERNMENT got out of control again.
“Assault weapons/rifles” are necessary if one is to protect themselves from over aggressive police forces. The reason police chiefs are for gun control is they want a police state… one that’s full of easily controlled sheep.
I spent 25 years of my life protecting the Constitution from “all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC…” Unfortunatly I now consider most police, DA’s, judges, and congress as domestic enemies of that precious document.
Amen Brother Bruce!I am not Morman, but I have a high respect for those who are. All that I have met are good people willing to help others.I don’t know who to vote for this time. I’m not in favor of Obama’s socialism, nor Romney’s unbridled capitalism. They’re both not healthy or sustainable. I really don’t see a lesser evil in this one.
There’s a real problem today with Government AND business thinking that you need a piece of paper to be able to actually DO something. My dad was a structural engineering technician w/out a degree, whose last 10 years in practice was to check the work of all the other PEs in the office (including two Phd’s). My Brother is Vice President of Engineering, West Coast, for a company that manufactures hard drive assembly and QC gear. Guess what? The only formal training he got was in the Navy in optical systems repair.I have a BA in studio art (metal & jewelery), but have been a civil engineering technician for the last 25 years. The degree means only what others think it means and nothing more. It’s a shame so many can’t get past the idea that if you don’t have a piece of paper with fancy writing on it you can’t think or DO anything.Reid
You forgot the calculator for 1st graders and the new laptop (every year) for the 6th grade & up. Oh, yeah, don’t forget to make sure they all have cellphones.
Nah, a good recliner’s good for twenty easy.
