Hmmm,, Oliver Stoneās movie would have been very different with Dabney Coleman in the lead role. (Donāt know why that thought popped into whatās left of my brain..)
Lewreader - was that an intentional misspelling of Justinās last name,,, or is it because youāre an old fart like me (I googled just to make sure) and just donāt keep track? Either way, I got a chuckle out of it. Everytime I hear the kidās name, I flash back to, āā¦ and Jerry Mathers as The Beaverā.
1) About an hour
2) Set regimen - FB is 2nd, FA is 3rd
3) Later in the day,, sometimes much later depending on what crisis is currently pending
4) Itās a curse, 2 to 3 times/day usually - but Iāve cut back because of the impact on productivity (and rarely comment anymore for the same reason)
5) T is so PROLIFIC,, and so bizarrely surreal,, my right brain needs the stimulation (being a left-brained geek)
6) In a voyeuristic kind of wayā¦ I know all the regulars by their posts, but donāt often contribute - which is a cop-out, I know,, maybe when I retireā¦
Hmmm,,, power, control, family dysfunction,, combine with the barrage of cultural images related to body image - have we an eating disorder in the making??
Or am I reading too much into this - maybe itās just about a little girl and her snickerdoodlesā¦
Congrats, T, on your 4th anniversaryā¦ to paraphrase Mr. Lee Hays,,, I donāt always understand or agree with it,, but itās always interestinā. Thanks,,,
Ottod - I think you captured the nuance between āfearā and āterrorā,,, the difference between being in control, the fear felt as a child sits at the top of a slippy-slide considering her options - and not being in control, the terror felt by a child that has been the victim of abuse. As noted above, a certain amount of fear can be healthy,,, terror never.
Nab and ladyfingers - itās the āwarm before the stormā,,, here on the front range in Colorado, we get that quite often (relatively speaking,, once or twice a season) - unusually balmy weather that precedes a killer blizzard. Read about it one time - something about how on one side of a strong low pressure system air is aggressively moved in from the south - until the system hits,, then BAMā¦ maybe Jason is just a day early..
@Somebodyshortās post - interesting fact brought to mind that ties together a lot of the comments here. Many industrial reciprocating internal combustion engines are rated by āBrake Specific Fuel Consumptionā - that is fuel consumption per Horsepower Hour,, Typically about 8000 BTU / HP-hr - since fuel values are usually measured in BTU/lb or BTU/scf. If engines were 100% efficient, that number would be 2545 (see SS post),,, so an easy way to calculate engine efficiency is to divide 2545 by the BSFC. In the typcial case ā about 32%. The rest goes to heat, friction, incomplete combustion, etcā¦
WHOA, Jackā¦ you just descended into the NERD zoneā¦ sorryā¦
Easy way to think about it in everyday terms - a lightbulb burning at a rate of 100 watts,, is the same kind of measure as an engine running at a rate of 250 HP,, as dtut says - work/timeā¦ Iām sure Wiley vets his info pretty thoroughly.
