Some years back, I met up with the guy who took me to our 8th grade graduation dance – I hadn’t seen him in 35 or 40 years. And had I run into him at random, I’d never have recognized him – the geeky boy became a very tall man. His hair color was the same, but nothing else. Now I wonder if he’d recognized me, apart from my telling him I’d be in a red coat…
My husband’s new car does all that nonsense and more. The most irritating thing is there’s no way to turn it off. If the manufacturer would just send a software update allowing us to chose what we like and disable what we hate, it’d be a great car. Especially the coffee thing – why does that pop up after just 20 miles? Seriously???
Considering what it costs to go to a movie in a theater, Netflix is a really good deal – the monthly cost is less than 2 adult tickets around here, and I can pause it if I need to refill my drink or take a potty break (now that I see it in writing, I think those two are maybe related??) ;)
One of my best password schemes back when I was working consisted of a word and special character (which I never had to change) that started with upper case, followed by month and year – like Pass!0299, then Pass!0399, etc. I changed it on the first of the month and never forgot it. Did that for the last decade or so that I worked.
40-some years ago, I went to a Museum of War (don’t recall if that was the specific name) showing all sorts of weaponry going back centuries. I found it depressing to think of how much time, brainpower, and money has gone into finding new ways to destroy the other guys…
Since retiring, my sleep pattern is all weird. After years of bedtime between 9 and 10, getting up at 5, now bedtime is anywhere from 9 till after midnight, and wakey time varies from 3:30 to 7 or so. It’s annoying, but since I don’t generally have any place to go or anything to do on a schedule, I just deal.
That was Christmas of my childhood – a frenzy of ripping paper! Then I married into a family that did one gift at a time and everyone watched the recipient open it. It took ages!
I remember, once upon a time eons and eons ago we had to do research papers in school – elementary school! We’d choose a topic, hit the library, and write our paper with supporting cites. I’m guessing that’s no longer part of any curriculum.
