    I like the idea that maybe Phoebe’s mom absolutely HAS to paint every guest who comes to dinner—no matter how boring they seem ;)

    @Doctor11He should’ve said, “The nail clippers doesn’t have any ammo either, so I guess that settles it.”

    @Rx71Wm29Don’t you remember the time Holly teased her for a late-night “booty call?”

    The problem is that it’s the illusion of security. Remember what the terrorists brought on the 9/11 planes? Not bombs. Box cutters. In other countries, professionals keep an eye on things and investigate when their senses tell them something’s up. In the U.S., we look at scans of naked people, pat down anyone wearing cargo pants and go about our business. (If you still think the extra security makes planes safer, consider this: Anyone with a small amount of know-how can turn the average laptop battery into a bomb.) http://xkcd.com/651/

    This arc is a nice contrast to the Miguel line so long ago…showing both sides of teen relationships. Yes, there’s pressure and manipulation, but there can also be real tenderness and connection. So well done!

    The girl in the background of panel two is gunning for you, Holly!

    @Starman Stormtrooper

    I do see the similarities… we’ve already had a comic where the drawing style changes to show the imaginative game the characters are playing a la Tracer Bullet or Spaceman Spiff. Both animal friends are seen differently by the main characters than by the world at large. Both animal friends even have a similar haughty/smug tendency at times. But I am enjoying this strip immensely, and I don’t think it’s a problem to see similarities. Artists influence each other. It happens in all genres, so if the result is good art (and I think this is), then there’s no harm in saying, Hey, looks like you were influenced by…. In fact, if I were a cartoonist and someone compared my strip to Calvin and Hobbes, I’d probably take it as a compliment. But then, that’s just me.

    I really like this strip, but let’s not be silly now.
