I read this in High School too. I thought I didn’t like poems until I realized I listen to poems every day on the radio, set to music. Thank you Paul Simon.

" Money (That’s What I Want) " is a rhythm and blues song written by Tamla founder Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford, which was the first hit record for Gordy’s Motown enterprise. Barrett Strong recorded it in 1959 as a single for the Tamla label, distributed nationally on Anna Records.

My favorite Polack joke: Two Polacks are staring at a flagpole when a lumberjack walks up and asks what are they doing? One Polcak says, We’re trying to figure out how tall the flagpole is." The Lumberjack says, “No problem” and grabs the flagpole, pulls it out of the ground, lays it down, whips out his measure tape, measures the pole and says, “It’s forty feet.” He then grabs the flagpole again and puts it back in it’s original place and walks on. The one Polack says to the other Polack, “What a stupid lumberjack. We wanted to know the height, not the length!!”

I agree. When “NO child left behind” became the thing, I thought, either you had to lower the bar for students so low that no one fails, or you have to raise the bar so high for teachers that the incompetent ones had to find another profession.

It was visiting day and, as I walked in the door, my ex said, Your son is failing Algebra I". My first reaction was, “That’s impossible.” He was too smart to fail.Upon checking with him, I found out he wasn’t changing the sign when he moved to known to the other side of the equal sign. I showed him why it needed to be changed but I will never know why the teacher just let him fail.Today, my son is a rocket scientist.

I see “under” as subservient. That is, even the President of the U.S., the most powerful person in the world, is still answerable to a higher authority. If our Presidents remembered this, they wouldn’t get themselves into trouble.

I went to L.A. Unified School District my first two years of school so, I didn’t learn anything. My mom was a classical piano player so, she taught me the alphabet but, being a piano player, she said the alphabet goes from A to G and then starts over again with A. It does this about eight times.
