3-2-1 back up strategy. 3 copies of your data, on at least 2 different media, 1 in an off-site location. Cloud storage is fine as long as it is the ‘1’ and you have other back-ups.
My wife and I have a rescue that was severely malnourished and was therefore food ‘anxious’ when we first got him. He wasn’t aggressive, but he didn’t really pay attention to what was going into his mouth. Consequently, until we got him comfortable and trained, he often tried to eat spoons, the bowl, fingers, or anything else that happened to be near the dish. As soon as he realized it wasn’t actually ‘food’ he would stop and release, but it did lead to a couple scares in the beginning.
If you’re looking at long-term storage, a mechanical drive is better. SSDs are subject to bit-flip and more susceptible to controller death.
