Anyone else reminded of George Carlin and his sketch about birth control on the AM-FM album? Something like this: "Eventually there will be an unreliable birth control pill called ‘Baby Maybe’ "

(I cannot put video links in this chatbox,) but for an insightful <4 minute encapsulation of intergenerational trauma, check out The Lynda Barry Experience “Wartime” on u toob.

Do see this generation as having much more difficulty coping? I wonder… every generation has its trauma, but younger people (hopefully) feel that they can talk about it, at least with someone they trust. I think about the “Greatest Generation,” which sent 12 million Americans to serve in the military. And except for the Japanese held in US prison camps, other countries not only lost millions of soldiers/sailors/airmen, millions of injuries, and civilian casualties. It was the stiff-upper-lip generation, but all that trauma has to find a release valve somewhere. A lucky few figured it out via counseling. Others sublimated it with booze and drugs. Some of the trauma affected parenting. All this to say that trauma is intergenerational, so if the parents can’t figure it out, it often gets passed on to the next generation.

Based on my distractability, I’m glad that the internet was not around while I was growing up. I definitely got a lot more reading in! Having said that, young people growing up today are dealing with situations and technology that previous generations couldn’t even conceive of. Yet, there are common threads to growing up: maturing, rebelling, seeking independence, trying to figure out changes internal and external, and more. When you speak with, or otherwise communicate with a young person such as your kid, grandkid, niece, nephew, neighbor, etc., how do you connect with them?

I don’t see her as traumatized so much as questioning why she is single/alone (isolated?) and why it has gotten under her skin so much.

Over the years, Luann has storylines both funny and dramatic. We’ll see if Peirce delivers that as well. I mean, it’s been (how many?) decades, and Nate must sometimes feel like a motherless child.

Aye, but with St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, those all-American combinations of yellow and blue food dye are just the ticket! Had it been Valentines Day, they could have been blood red.

“Maybe Les and Gunther will hold her and and put a cool towel on her forehead? Poor baby.” OR… Maybe they’ll hold her down while she freaks out during her donation time. She doesn’t necessarily want to give, but she will to impress Phil.
