I thought it was a pretty funny play on the “border walls” of comic strips; if you wanted to get offended, it seems like it didn’t take much to offend you. “Lio” is certainly much less political (and a lot better comic strip) than “Mallard Duck”, which is a one-note joke at best just about every day (once in a blue moon Tinsley has a non-political scree strip that isn’t bad, but that’s pretty rare). “Lio” is pretty mild in comparison.
It’s probably closer to the Bugs Bunny cartoon where he was a catcher in a baseball game—the patter is pretty similar and, as I recall, so were the results of the pitch!
