It’s not unkind to give an honest critique of your work. If you don’t like harsh comments, dedicate yourself to doing a better job or find another line of work. You may be a great writer; but writing Gil Thorp, requires a basic understanding of sports. As far as the artwork, it doesn’t even look like Rachel is trying. Each day, the strip looks like a first-draft sketch of a drawing the artist plans to get to someday.
Serious question for Henry. Are you actively trying to get people to stop reading this script? Early on, I tried to defend you, and I still defend you against the racist comments; but you’re pushing things too far. There are folks who have read this script for 50 or more years. It seems like your mission is to drive them away. I suspect you think your storylines are going to attract a younger crowd, but I can’t see how this is possible. School age sports fans are not going to read this when you get every sports detail wrong. Other school-age kids aren’t going to read because the script is a now a story about a broken marriage and how it has affected a small town high school coaching staff. You’ve killed both the sports and the teen angst.
Happy Birthday, and thank you for taking over this strip when no one qualified was willing to do it.
