   Has anyone else here been amazed by how acceptable anti-muslim rhetoric has become? I mean, I remember those post september 11th days. I was still in high school then.

   But one thing I remember is that there were still people (including the priest at the church I attended) who were able to differentiate between the fanatics who launched the attacks, and Muslims as a whole. I can still remember Father Seleva telling us that it was at this time that we needed to reach out to, and protect, and I quote “our Muslim and Sikh brothers and sisters.” He was talking about the Muslims and Sikhs who were being assaulted in the wake of 9-11.

   How many priests would be brave enough to use the phrase “our Muslim brothers and sisters” today? Far too few,I am afraid. Far to few.

   @ billdog - Don’t worry, I don’t actually want to ban people from saying it. I’ll just give them stern looks of disapproval. I may shake my head and sigh.

   If I could ban any phrase, “It’s the economy, stupid,” would be in the top twenty. Or maybe the top thirty. There’s a lot of agonizingly stupid phrases I’d like to ban.

   In general, most states governed by a single religious group aren’t exactly havens of tolerance, dfowensby.

   I’m curious about what you mean by “muslim governed country”. Are you talking about countries where the government is actually theocratic, or just countries where the majority of people are Muslim?

   Again, it’s difficult to think of a religious group that hasn’t done this, while in power.

   And none of this changes the fact that the US guarantees freedom of religion. Full stop.

    I mean, who needs civil rights legislation, right? The free market will decide which ethnic group deserves to be treated fairly! Hope and change!
