I appreciate the effort at crafting a detailed and thought out mystery, but if the story doesn’t offer any reason for us to care about the people involved in the mystery there is nothing emotionally driving the story. In any case, for what it’s worth, I enjoy colorful villains more in general who tend to generate some interest in their own right.

Nicely written. Kip shows some integrity—which has seemed lacking—and Tiff is let down in a way that is actually flattering rather than deflating. I am rooting for them.

Somehow i can’t imagine any firefighter’s fantasy (male or female) would be their child reading Moby Dick! (Or anyone’s really…)

I completely agree. Beautiful story by Shannon but when Luann and Bernice so rarely are shown liking each other it rings a bit hollow. I think it would have worked better if Luann and Bernice were shown with a slightly sad expression suggesting they are just realizing a problem and have taken the first step necessary to fixing it.

I totally agree! It is pretty engaging and I hope the conclusion of it leads to real change in Luann and Berniece. It also could be a parable about how two friends can grow apart through no fault of their own, which would be a far less happy outcome but equally realistic.

Looking back at the strip referred to, I’m pretty sure the thunk is the sound of the teacher falling to the ground as it follows the stream of notes from the music she was making.

I like that LuAnn is being positive about herself and proactive in defending herself. Been awhile since we’ve seen that.

To get a classic Tracy look at the angle he does in panel one isn’t easy. Ettinger’s work also has echoes of Rick Fletcher. The Collins and Fletcher era was my personal favorite.

Here’s what I have on Blowtop Jones. Other esteemed folks have more detailed histories. Blowtop is Flattop’s older brother who easily loses his temper. In later years, he attempts to go straight, but often gets pulled into the sphere of his many criminally inclined relatives. In a bit of revisionist history detailed in 2011, Blowtop is revealed to have performed a job for Big Boy, along with Flattop. In 2015, Blowtop makes a futile attempt to talk Stiletta Jones out of a dangerous revenge plot. 3/50-x/50, 1/82-3/82, late/85, 9/11(retro), 1/15-3/15.
