Luann is one of the very better comics. I appreciate how each character is a unique drawing, as opposed to cookie cutter type characters in Peanuts or BC. This does tend to raise expectations about each character being an individual we can make assumptions about, and have expectations of, in their way of dealing with people.
One frequent criticism is that Greg’s characters don’t stay true to themselves. Characters seem to act out of character at times. I was genuinely annoyed at a couple of arcs, because the characters seemed to be acting out of convenience to the story line, more than as expressions of personalty creating a story arc.
It takes a superior writer/artist to even engage me at that level. Luann has a great cast of supporting characters. This strip, to me, is the easiest to become annoyed at , and the easiest to be enjoyed.
It’s such a clever plot….to gain an advantage in international competition by trolling Americans and making them mad at each other…. Though I think he might have stolen the idea from a “Pinky and the Brain” episode.
A perfect arc for this character. She is being true to her personality, as we’ve come to understand it, and life’s lessons are coming.
When Greg Evans pays attention to his characters, he really shines.
