Well, Tribune-Media has “decided” Annie has to go - the last strip is June 13th, yet they did hint that Annie will possibly, like some other comics, continue online. I enjoy reading Annie here and I enjoy reading all of your reader postings. When growing up, we stayed up late to get the very early edition of the Sunday NY Daily News. Why? Because the Sunday comics were the best. Today, sadly, that is for the most part, not so. Too much lame nonsense, too many clones, not much in adventure or a continuing basis. What I have enjoyed over the years is that Annie was not - and is not - a politically correct” strip and it allows the reader to try to work and solve the plot line. But dropping “Annie” also points to the print news media in sharp decline overall - want proof? Hey, here we are talking/posting to each other online.

I don’t think Connie did this - somebody else hired by the two spinsters wanted the shamus gone, and these two probably want Connie out of the way also. Probably the two biddies themselves have traveled down Mexico way - to make certain their plans are accomplished, and Connie knows she is next.

Asp and Punjab will return when we least expect it. So will Santiago. I’d like to find out what happened to the “dolphin driver” who piloted Warbucks’ private sub and was captured with Warbucks. We did find out that when Annie was in Alaska he was the beau of that gal Annie was visiting, and that gal was wondering where he was.

Happy Easter and Passover to all! I see that Oliver Warbucks is wearing his grey Easter tuxedo, not the usual black one. Did everyone have their fill of chocolate?

Re what happened to Asp and Punjab; my recollection is that Warbucks and his sub commander were taken to that disguised freighter by Xaxos’ mercenaries and then the sub was hit by shells from a deck gun. My recollection further is that there was a third person on the sub with Asp and Punjab and they told him to face death with bravery and dignity, then the sub disappeared after being shelled. The old disguised freighter was like the Nazi’s used in WW2 to prey on shipping; make the vessel seem harmless yet have false sides/panels that concealed deck guns and other weapons. Even the Confederates used several of these against the Union navy during the Civil War.
