Actually, Richard S. Russell, the question that was settled, was answered incorrectly. I am not in favor of any state succeeding, but apparently, Lincoln and the North failed to apply the Constitution when saying that no State has the right to leave once admitted. There is nothing in the Constitution to forbid it, and, the Declaration of Independence states that no man, who can no longer tolerate the government he lives under, is under any obligation to do so.
It’s not the climate change that will get mankind, it is the constant warfare, and planning for war. Eventually, some one, somewhere, will get it into his or her head that they can “win” said war. and billions will be dead, the economy will tank completely, the barter system will become the only way of commerce, and people will live and die where they were born. And the cycle will begin again.
I’m from Detroit. Far from it, and glad of it! It supports 4 major sports teams because the population of the city moved out of the city and into the suburbs. City limits when I was a kid were at 8 Mile Rd on the East side. There were farms at 14 Mile Rd. Now, I have friends who live as far out as 26 Mile Rd. Also, the latest I have read, Detroit has a population of about 900,000, more than enough to support the teams that call the place home.
Staying on the subject of horses, but off this strip: Dan Blocker, the late “Bonanza” actor (Hoss Cartwright) and I (now) are of comparable size. I do not ride horses any more. Last time I rode was while on R&R in Australia in 1970. When I did rid, I admit to being a rank amateur. Today, when I see a horse (from the other side of a fence) i get the feeling that it must be looking at me much as I believe Dan’s horses looked at him, “You have GOT to be kidding me! Oh, my aching back! already! Please, Dear God, let him pick someone else to get on! Pul-eeze!”
When I was very young, my Great Grandmother (I am told) had an old plow mare, who was put out to pasture and retirement. She also had a stinking rooster that hated my guts. One day, the rooster caught me without an adult around, and chased me. I ran under that mare and scared her. She brought her hind legs up, and when they came down, one grazed me. The other came down square on the danged rooster, and (as Jerry Clower used to say) “killed him grave yard dead!” The mare was nuzzling me on the ground when Granma came up, and I’m told we had a great chicken dinner that night. Still have a slight scar on the side of my head. Maybe it came from that mare.
Amen to that! Best, worst, example is the late Christopher Reeve. It took a long time, but his cause of death should be listed as “complications following a fall from a horse.”
As I try to read this (and type THIS), my one year old rescue is doing her best to make sure I pay more attention to her. on the desk, the keyboard, in front of the screen. She’s cute, but not that derned cute. GETOUTTAHERE!
Only have two cats. If the bowl has just a little in it, they both start in on me (NEVER my wife!) by jumping on me at 4AM. One of these days…I’m gonna have cat steak for breakfast! (Not really, b4 anyone gets upset.)
Rose works in her garden. Worms are a beneficial part of gardening. What the heck is Rose getting all girly about? Once caught a garter snake and brought it home to “scare” Mom. Didn’t. But scared the heck out of big bad cop, Dad!
Firstly, morality is transient, it changes with the mores of the times. What is “moral” today, becomes immoral tomorrow, and vis versa. Once that is understood, the next lesson becomes instilling the lessons of today’s morality into the peoples that morality affects. Lot’s of luck!
