My aunt who grew up on a farm in central Wisconsin during the Depression said they spent a lot of time as kids picking rocks out of the fields.

The title panel says “By Aung Thang” so maybe it’s Gavin’s own writing.

Agreed, scared the heck out of me as a kid. I still remember that scene.

Ditto, always cicadas. It’s why I like the time of year when real cicadas show up around here – at least then I know I’m hearing something that isn’t my tinnitus.

I was worried about that one, too!

One time, I took a bath in one of those narrow, deep tubs they have in Europe. It was a nice soak, but I almost couldn’t get out of the tub. It’s so narrow that it’s very difficult turn over to get on your hands and knees in order to get to your feet to step out of the tub. I did a lot of flailing around (I’d pick up my feet to turn over and my head would duck under) until I finally managed it! I’m sure there’s a better way, but I never tried it again.

The concept is that a woman on a date should always have enough money in her purse to pay for a cab home in case she gets mad at her date and wants to leave. That’s how my mother explained it to me.

I feel the same way about my mom’s gardening tools.
