Can these guys get a story going?

Are we ever going to get to the point of this story? I am old enough to remember Chet Gould. His characters had nuance. We knew their motivation and why they did what they did. They were interesting because they were more than villains. They were fully formed human beings. When they failed in a human relationship, we almost felt sorry for them. Mrs. Pruneface is a great example. Her husband, of course, was Pruneface. She held Dick Tracy responsible for her husband’s death. The story opens with Mrs. Pruneface as a cook for a frat house. The boys love her. She is a great gal. later, she turns menacing atreventually tries to kill Tracy in one of Gould’s best death traps. Shaky fell in love with gentle, doomed Snowflake. A killer who truly fell in love. we could empathize with Shaky’s humanity while condemning his crime. Dick Tracy needs these types of criminals. Charles Ettinger, Mike Curtis and Eric Costello need to learn about character development. Check out the Flattop, Jr. continuity.

Really, trying to fit in all the liberal buzzwords and support all the Democratic talking points makes this strip boring, nothing like the intelligent strip it once was.

It is amazing how current this particular strip is considering it was published in 1991.

Ut’s interesting how Peanuts was different in the beginning. Its flavor is more akin to Dennis the Menace mixed with some Family Circus.

Charlie Brown in the beginning was certainly more fun and mischievous.

I’ve never heard of anyone trying to ban any books in the US except teaching the historical value of the Bible in California. Books are routinely edited for sex, violence and language to make them suitable for a particular age group.

People only want to make sure their children are reading age-appropriate books and that controversial topics are introduced by parents. Nobody’s banning books or burning bookstores.

No one’s trying to tell grown adults what they can or can not read. Parents are trying to take back the education of their kids.

Nobody I know or have seen recently has banned books. Some parents are correctly concerned about age-appropriate books being available only to those readers who are mature enough to handle the content. Parental choice as to when a child is ready to consume information is important.
