    I was once in Acapulco sunbathing alongside a Norwegian couple who were saying to each other all kinds of awful stuff about Mexico and Mexicans – in Norwegian, of course -, while I chatted away with my family in our native Spanish. So at some point I “casually” struck up a conversation with them in Norwegian (I lived in Norway for several years back in the 80s and speak the language fluently). Guess they were embarrassed at the thought I had overheard them. They turned out to be very nice people who had had a bad experience, so I actually sided with them in some respects!
