   As I understand it, a passkey is effectively the same as an authenticator code – a shared secret key used to generate a sequence of authentication codes. Just automated in a way that can be integrated with a web server/browser.

   The fingerprint is not used to authenticate you to the web site, but to your local device in order to access the passkey data. I’m not sure how that would technically be classified.
