My wife and I are discovering how difficult it is to care for an aging parent. We just took in her mother, who spent 13 days in the hospital when we took her to the ER just before the blizzard hit. She had acute kidney infection that had begun as a UTI, and was experiencing kidney failure and her heart has very fast. Turns out also that her heart is operating at about 25%. They initially said she had 4-7 days, but she seems to be recovering a bit. Instead of going to hospice, my wife is taking care of her, and we are fighting to be able to sell mom’s house, which co-owns with a sister, who doesn’t want to sell to pay for ongoing health care. The sister (my wife’s aunt) said paying for that is “not her problem, and she’s not selling HER house”. My wife and her 2 brothers have named her Aunt Selfish C_nt. What a mess!
