   My favorite use of the asterisk was in an ad for a weight-loss drug. There was a picture of an attractive, slightly overweight woman. The headline read “You* could lose up to thirty pounds”. Yes, the asterisk took you to a footnote that took it all back. Your results may vary, etc.
