It’s perfectly fine for people to vote for their own private interest, that’s what democracy is for. If it benefit most people, it will be voted in, majority win.
The problem we have right now is a lot of voters are voting against their own interest, instead they vote for fearmongering. They will be happy to vote for a felon or someone who are willingly and openly try to damage our democracy.
The western society have evolved into high paying service industry like designers, software developers and lawyers and didn’t really have time and energy to make a bird house. Even a lowly McDonald job pay better than building a bird house.
It’s like a rich guy living in a big mansion, hiring a team of chefs and lamenting I used to cook my own food…
