My dad had been trained as a toolmaker/machinist before he became a cop (steadier job). He, too, would make a specialty tool if needed. A learned how to improvise from him.
My dad was tough to buy for. He worked a lot of hours (eight kids) so he didn’t have a lot of time for hobby, he spend a lot of time fixing what we broke or wore out around the house. He seemed to get the most pleasure from having us all around at the holidays. Especially when my older brothers were in the military, the best gift for him was having them home at Christmas. It was rare for them all to be home at the same time.
All politics is local. Don’’t vote for the same alderman, city councilor, mayor, state rep, state senator, US Rep, US senator again. Vote in new blood And consider this, the media seem to do zero research on a candidate’s qualifications, they only report on how much they have in campaign contributions. Campaign financing, well, that’s another rant.
Red state vs Blue state is a media construct to make pigeonholing Americans easier for dimwitted reporters who cannot grasp the concept that not every one in a particular state votes the same way. I think I first saw the purple map about 24 years ago in George W Bush’s election.
So let’s stop assuming that blocs of people, be it by ethnicity, address, gender, or other issues feels the same way about everything. And please, if you can’t stand your uncle’s politics don’t bait him at Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza parties. stemlounge.Com/muddy-america-color-balancing-trumps-election-map-infographic/
I am in total agreement with JJ about the use of the word gift as a noun. A gift is the object that you give. It’s almost as bad as people who use ask as a noun when the words suggestion, request, order or demand would be more precise. I blame Seinfeld and the ‘regifter’ episode. Don’t get me started on using “plus one” to refer to a guest. That is just dehumanizing.
I believe this community qualifies as a form of social media
