Originally the film was supposed to end with a shot that panned down to show the ruby slippers under Dorothy’s bed implying it was not a dream after all. In the original books it wasn’t. Dorothy went back and forth to Oz and Kansas several times before finally realizing Kansas kinda sucks and bringing her aunt and uncle to live in the Emerald City.
“You know Tracy, this could have all been avoided if you had just let me execute him last time. How may times does he have to do stuff like this before he’s officially a war criminal?”
Actually it comes before the last line. notice Mrs. Tidy says “Would you like to live with me.” and Admiral Crackers replies “Live with you.” Not echoing. He clearly understood.
So I’m predicting a few more days of chaos before animal control shows up, and then the animal control will be Sophie’s Woman. Happy ending? Well, eventually sure, but at this point I’m concerned clueless woman try refusing to give Sophie up. When this began she struck me as well intended but not knowledgeable. As the story went on and we saw more of her personality though, she now strikes me as the willfully ignorant type. The “I know better than everyone even the professionals” kind.
