   I had a ’61 Riley 1.5, a car with some very clever design features. It had four doors yet was six inches shorter than the VW bug of the era. The biggest drawback was its Lucas electric equipment. One good feature was that part of the car jack also could function as a crank to start the car, like a 1910 Model T.

   When the temperature dropped down to 20°, that Lucas battery could not start the car. I was a student and couldn’t afford a new battery. I got a lot of ribbing from my co-workers because of it, but one easy turn of that jack/crank always started it. Finally, I got a used Delco battery and never had to use the crank again.

   As many have said, Lucas, the God of Darkness.

    Around 2005, der Furor was asked about running for POTUS. His reply was Yes. Then he was asked which party? Republican. They believe anything you tell them.
