Men ARE so dumb. But so are women. Evidence of cluelessness from all genders and sexual orientations abound. People aren’t traditionally well taught about intimacy (especially men), leading to gaffes in relationships, and misunderstandings about what’s going on. Such is the fodder of dysfunctional lovesick torch songs, and comic strips.
Wow, I guess this means I’ll have to sign up my cat with ancestry.com, and start tracking down her heritage. There’s a rumor she’s descended from Macavity the Mystery Cat, but I suppose there’s a reason Macavity got the addendum to his name… ;^D
I attended three colleges, worked in two, as recently as 2013. I never saw a room that approached this. Like many other comics, Drabble lampoons real life, rather than accurately represents reality. That being said, college kids are under intense pressure to succeed in times with severely bleak prospects. I wouldn’t blame colleges for doing whatever it takes to help kids cope.
I don’t mean to be a wet blanket…. Well maybe I do. But this comic strip, like most comics are BASED on dysfunction, where the few mostly functional characters struggle with the absurdities of dysfunctional relationships in domestic/career/friendship/romance environments. It’s okay, keep ‘em coming, it’s good to share the analysis, but don’t ever expect dysfunction to be gone from our favorite fictions, or less-than-favorite realities.
