Those “workers” you put in quotes have higher productivity than the U.S., live longer and have better economies right now with lower unemployment. Might have something to do with having health care, not working themselves to death, being able to see their families once in a while, and not fearing that a sudden health crisis or workplace closing will leave them homeless. They also rank in the top spots for most happy countries in the world. But I guess you’re supposed to feel un-American unless you’re without health insurance, working 60-hour weeks, don’t take a vacation and don’t join a union.
Reminds me of the chorus to Matt McGinn’s “I’m Looking For a Job”:

Remind me of two horse racing jokes. One is the gambler who comes home and says to his roommate, “Hey, I broke even at the track today… and I really needed the money!” The other is the fellow who, after losing every bet all day, buys a ticket on every horse in the last race, walks down to the rail, and yells “Come on, SOMETHING!”
