Totally agree that Wallace joins Calvin & Hobbes and Cul-de-Sac as truly great comic strips. The combination of humor and beautifully crafted drawings is amazing in all three. I find it interesting and kind of wonderful that unlike the others, Wallace is basically a really good kid. He’s thoughtful, kind, empathetic and a really great friend. Usually, that’d make him sort of a dull character – and yet he’s anything but! It’s a joy every day to discover what’s coming next for Wallace and his world – and to see it rendered with such loving and delightful detail.

Still, the multi-color falls and water are beautifully done.

McCay is usually so meticulous, I wonder too if he had ever visited the falls. Seems like if he had, he would have presented it a little more accurately. Not that using the falls to wash off a dirigible is even remotely realistic!

This made me laugh out loud. Love the slow motion take as Spud realizes what’s about to happen. And I could not be happier with the very festive “Sploosh.”
