I had a look, of the towns you mentioned it looks like it’s closest to Bend (slightly southwest), though Eugene is isn’t too far away either. It’s in between the two, but it looks closer to Bend to my untrained eye
So, I had to look up satyr, faun (not fawn) and hot to trot. With hot to trot, actually one of the definitions is being “eager to begin/anxious to get going” which might apply to Phoebe in the second frame. The other definition, however, as The Wolf in Your Midst said, not age appropriate. Regarding Phoebe as a satyr, not only would she be a he as craigwestlake mentioned, but an accurate representation wouldn’t fly in the funnies regardless of gender, and I’ll leave the research as to why, up to you, lol.
I’m the youngest in my immediate family, as well as the aforementioned cousins, but and I’m not sure either of us felt the other was cool (maybe me feeling that way about them, rather than the opposite), but aside from one close school friend, they were the nicest contemporaries of mine growing up, so I think of them with a lot of fondness. There were a group from another side of the family who we (thankfully) didn’t see often who were similar to Phoebe’s cousins (though I never really thought they were cool)
Only good thing about Stone Soup becoming a Sunday only strip is there are fewer instances where the whiners can come out of the woodwork and complain
